Online Marketing Tools
This is a list of the online marketing tools I’ve found to be indispensable to my business. Most are free, the rest are worth many times what they cost.
Highlighted tools are free or include a free trial.
Training
Affilorama - Where I learned 80% of everything I know about Online Marketing. Mark Ling & co. offer tons of free training for affiliate marketing, and there are also paid programs which are very good.
Rapid Profit Formula – This is an excellent product by Matt Carter, an Internet Marketer I admire for his solid info and lack of hype. This course teaches how to market physical products mostly, but has excellent content on link building, keyword research, and contains a great WordPress theme too. This is the most comprehensive course I’ve come across, and it has my strong recommendation.
Hosting
BlueHost – Good low-cost shared hosting
CloudFiles – Where I host large files (Videos, PDFs, Images)
Software
Article Marketing Robot – Excellent article spinning and submission software. Don’t even bother with article marketing without this software.
True BoxShot – The best software I’ve used for creating eBook covers, no Photoshop skills required. The eBook image on DevinElder.com was created using True BoxShot
Aweber – The industry standard for email marketing (Try it for 1 month for $1)
Jing – Free screencapture software
Camtasia – Jing’s big brother – the Industry Standard for screen capture software (for Windows)
Dropbox – Free online file storage. Works like a folder on your computer, but you can share with others.
Screenflow – (for Mac) Absolutely brilliant screen capture software
WordPress - Free content management system that I could not live without
Woo Themes – Themes (like skins) for WordPress. Beautiful and highly functional
LastPass – Password management – keeps track of all your online passwords. A lifesaver!
Traffic Travis – SEO software
Market Samurai – *The* Gold Standard in SEO software. I love Market Samurai, it’s by far my favorite of these online marketing tools
Google Docs – Online documents and spreadsheets – great for collaboration on documents
Clicky – Fantastic real time analytics. I stopped using Google Analytics because people can track all of your web properties by your Google ID. Clicky is free for one site, but I pay $10/mo for analytics on 10 sites.
Filezilla - Free FTP client
Pixlr - free online image editor
Sony Vegas – Great video editing software (Windows)
iMovie – Mac movie software – simple and effective, great results. Comes bundled with Mac computers.
Skype - Great for Instant Messaging and interviewing VAs. Also great for podcast and video interviews.
Quirk Search Status – Awesome free SEO add-on for Firefox
Forums (free)
Warrior Forum – Popular Internet Marketing forum
Digital Point Forum – Popular Internet Marketing forum
Marketplaces (free)
Clickbank – The digital marketplace where I find most of the products I promote. Also good for market research.
Amazon.com – great place to quickly gauge market interest and search for new keywords
Outsourcing
oDesk – Where I hire lots of people to work while I sleep
Hardware
Macbook Pro – I switched from PC to Mac on November 1, 2010. Amazing and highly recommended.
Books
Total Money Makeover – by Dave Ramsey. Positively the most important book I have ever read in my entire life. and I read a lot.
Think and Grow Rich – by Napoleon Hill. A classic with a great message
Anything by Seth Godin – Seth is *the* Marketing Guru of our time.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People – by Steven Covey. Another classic with a timeless message.
Rework – by Jason Fried from 37Signals. Very pertinent to the modern work environment.
4 Hour Workweek – by Tim Ferris. This is the one that started it all for me. I knew when I read this book that my life had changed forever. It’s sensationalist and light on specifics, but I’ve read this book 4 times and continue to read it for inspiration.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of online marketing tools. I’ve tested many, many products and services out there, and these are the best. In the online marketing space, there tends to be a lot of crappy services and tools promising you the moon. Beware of anything that sounds too good to be true!
